When a classmate named Shoko Nishimiya, who is deaf, is bullied by Shoya Ishida to the point that she transfers to another school, Shoya finds himself ostracized and bullied by his peers with no friends to speak of. Years later, haunted by his past behavior, a repentant Shoya sets out on a path of redemption, determined to find Shoko, make amends for his elementary school cruelty, and help her find her own voice and happiness.
