High school student Ichigo Kurosaki has always possessed the rare ability to see ghosts. His mundane life is upended when a malevolent spirit known as a Hollow attacks his family. Rukia Kuchiki, a supernatural Soul Reaper, attempts to intervene but is severely injured in the battle. In a desperate bid to save his family, Ichigo accepts Rukia's offer to absorb her powers, transforming him into a Soul Reaper. Now, he must assume the duty of purifying Hollows and guiding souls to the afterlife, while trying to maintain his normal school life.
