After a devastating, failed attempt to perform human alchemy to bring their deceased mother back to life, young brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric suffer horrific physical tolls. Edward loses his left leg and right arm, while Alphonse's entire body is disintegrated, leaving his soul bound to a towering suit of armor.
