Piano prodigy Kousei Arima loses his ability to hear the sound of his own piano playing after the tragic death of his mother, leaving him in a quiet, monochrome world. Two years later, Kousei has completely abandoned the instrument and lives a dull life alongside his friends Tsubaki and Watari. Everything changes when he meets Kaori Miyazono, an eccentric, free-spirited violinist whose bold and expressive style of music helps Kousei face his past and guides him back into a world of color and sound.
